Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a doctor’s referral to visit Element Physio?
In most instances you do not need a referral from your doctor unless your injury is related to a Workers’ Compensation claim, a Motor Vehicle Accident, or you are eligible to claim under the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. If you are claiming a rebate back from Medicare, through the Team Care Arrangement (TCA), then a referral, as well as a care plan, is required from your GP.
What should I expect at my initial appointment?
We offer and recommend our new patients have a 1 hour initial appointment so we can hear your story, conduct a thorough examination, explain to you what is going on, treat you, and set up a management plan. We want to empower you towards recovery in a way that is easy for you to understand.
If your condition has been a complex and long-term injury we strongly recommend a 1 hour initial appointment.
If you feel that your condition is relatively new, or perhaps a simple sprain, then a 30 minute initial appointment may be more suitable for you. Please speak to our reception team for guidance.

How quickly can I be seen by a physio?
The time can vary but if we are unable to find you an appointment in the time frame you require, we do have a waiting list which is reviewed daily. We will endeavour to find you an earlier appointment depending on your flexibility with dates and times.
How much Physiotherapy will I require?
This varies considerably on a case by case basis and is something that should be discussed with your physiotherapist. In some instances, it may simply be a matter of an assessment and some simple treatment and advice. In other cases, a longer and more thorough course of treatment is required.
I’m not sure if my injury or condition is suitable for Physiotherapy?
If you are unsure if your injury is appropriate for physiotherapy please call our reception staff in our Erina rooms and ask to speak to one of the physiotherapists. If the physiotherapist feels that another course of action is necessary, such as referral to an orthopaedic surgeon, then they may be able to assist in making arrangements.
Is Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology covered under my health fund?
These days it is becoming common practice for health funds to cover both physiotherapy and exercise physiology. There is some variability in what your fund will cover depending on both the fund you are in and your level of cover. You can call your health fund to enquire about your level of cover if you have extra’s. We have Hicaps available meaning you can claim for services on the spot.
